Calgary sweet table design: Featured on Wedding Obsession

Yesterday, I was very pleased to have one of our Sugar Bars featured on Wedding Obsession.

I have been obsessed with the Sophia Coppola-directed ad campaign for Miss Dior Chèrie perfume for so long, with its whimsical and gamine feeling, happy pastel colours, balloons and Parisian buildings. I thought the colours would translate really well into a pretty, chic Sugar Bar.

Happy Valentine’s Day: cinnapop treats for your sweet

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!

Whether you treat this day as a special day to lavish your loved one, or choose to treat your significant other just as lovingly every day of the year, you cannot deny the abundance of sweet treats that are available for this holiday.

As a cute treat idea, I decided to make these tiny cinnamon-roll-pops (I have dubbed them “cinnapops”) because for some reason everything tastes better when it’s on a stick. I used this recipe for the idea although my all-time favourite cinnamon bun recipe is from Foodess.

A quick tip: roll out your dough into a rectangle that is wider than it is long, otherwise you will end up with huge rolls that will be way too large for your stick…not that I am speaking from experience…

Give one of these sweet babies to a loved one and they won’t be able to resist you!

Calgary wedding design: mint green inspiration

Ocean inspiration from corals, sea and mint green were all over the Spring 2012 runways, giving us that much needed breath of fresh air after the more dark and moody colours of Fall and Winter. Since Calgary is experiencing a very mild winter, I am highly anticipating lighter clothing and created a breezy wedding design board for a Spring wedding look that is right on trend.

I love the versatility of mint green for a wedding: combine it with the palest pink and gold to elude a vintage, or whimsical nature, or pair it with dramatic black and white for a crisp and modern feel. Take advantage of the fashion trend right now and get some airy mint dresses for your wedding!

Are you dying to weave this colour into your wardrobe this Spring? What about your Spring wedding?

Banff Wedding Coordinator: Lindsay & Ryan

Lindsay and Ryan’s vintage-inspired destination wedding had an abundance of personality and character and was, simply, pure fun. Lindsay and I know each other from university, and I was honoured when she and Ryan asked me to be a part of their wedding. Being the incredibly organized teachers that Lindsay and Ryan both are, from their organized lists, thoughtful and whimsical design details, to their caring and helpful families, my life as their Banff wedding coordinator was a pleasure, filled with tons of laughter!

The wedding ceremony and reception were held at Buffalo Mountain Lodge with pretty yellow, white and grey details and plenty of vintage-tinged charm. Lindsay and Ryan, as well as their families, have wonderfully quirky and hilarious personalities, and I really appreciated how much time they took to create thoughtful and personal touches throughout their entire wedding (bridal party cowbell ringing anyone?).

Fun fact that Ryan shared with me: you know those delicious “Miss Vickie’s” brand chips? Yep, that’s Lindsay’s aunt!

There are so many sweet details and gorgeous moments captured by Sarah Pukin Photography, I had a hard time narrowing them down!

Thanks to Amanda for assisting and a special thank you to Victoria Fraser, colleague and friend. We’ll miss you, Tori.

Wedding planner Calgary, personal post: Mexico wedding

Hola!

If you noticed my absence last week on the Internet, it was because I was in sunny Huatulco, Mexico! Good friends of mine had the uncanny foresight to schedule their destination wedding during the coldest week in Calgary, and while everyone back home was bundling up and warming up their cars, we were sunning ourselves and playing beach volleyball, enjoying the 30+ degree weather (plus, the yummiest coconut ice cream ever).

As a guest at this wedding, it was really nice to sit back and let others handle the wedding details. But as it is often hard for me to completely turn off the wedding coordinating ways even if it isn’t a client’s wedding, I found myself offering my help in any way…even if it was simply taking some photos and helping a good friend lace up and bustle her wedding dress.

Here are a few photos from this awesome vacation for you to enjoy while I catch up on things after this much-needed vacation!

Schultzes, it was an honour to be part of your wedding and a blast to soak up the sun and surf with you and your families. How do you feel about a vow renewal next year?

Friday Flowers: yellow paper flower bouquet

I have had this image saved away in my bouquet folder for a while, so please forgive me when I say that I can no longer find the source!

This bouquet is simply stunning because it combines both bold, large paper flowers with fresh flowers. The petal-y hydrangea and spiky white veronica combined with the crisp paper flowers is just the right balance of whimsy and classic beauty!

Ideas for Choosing Bridesmaid Dresses

Modern brides of today, rejoice! The choices you have for bridesmaids attire is so diverse and fun. Gone are the days of sticking to only one colour, one style, one length, etc. etc. Nowadays, almost anything goes, so here are some ideas and guidelines to help you choose your bridesmaids’ attire.

Multicolour:
Who says you have to stick to one colour? Choose a multitude of colours that best reflect your wedding style to give your wedding guys/gals some freedom of choice. The trick to this style is to keep the tones of the colours in the same family: pastels stick with pastels and jewel tones go with jewel tones and so on to keep the overall feeling in check.

White
How about going the ways of The Duchess of Cambridge and Beyonce and outfitting your entire bridal party in white? This is so chic and crisp, and for brides that are truly confident. If you are considering an all-white bridal party but are a little worried about not feeling distinguished enough, choose white dresses for your bridesmaids that are a very different style than your wedding gown.

Same colour, different styles
This concept has been increasingly popular, and I understand why. You can have a unifying element to your wedding party by keeping everyone in the same colour but still allow for individuality to shine through.

Separates
Don’t cringe! Separate tops and bottoms for bridesmaids dresses do not have to be those formal, heavy bridal satin styles. If you are having a more casual or whimsical wedding, be inventive and pick modern top and bottom pieces for your gals like in the photos below.

Tights
This is one for sassy bridal parties everywhere: keep things fun and let your bridesmaids shine with patterned tights. Keep in mind, however, that tights for your bridesmaids is weather permitting. You may love the look of tights but you wouldn’t want to force your bridesmaids to wear them if your wedding is during the high summer season…best stick to Fall or Winter weddings.

So what do you think? Are you more traditional and prefer to stick to one style in one colour? Or are you embracing the idea of letting your bridal party members choose everything on their own with a few guidelines? There is no right or wrong answer as long as it’s the best one to suit you and your bridal party
