Frequently Asked Questions

Why hire a wedding planner?

Wedding planning is a thrilling experience but also incredibly time consuming. Wedding planners manage your wedding so that you are able to enjoy your time with your fiancé, family and friends during this process (and so you don’t have to rope them into planning with you).

You may struggle with knowing how to pick appropriate vendors for your wedding vision. Beyond that, you may have trouble focusing on one vision for your wedding because you have so many ideas. A wedding planner is able to fulfill your ideas in a practical manner, refining your wedding details and matching you with suitable vendors. A wedding planner will also be able to honestly explore your ideas to ensure that you are not caving to familial/friend pressures when it comes to your wedding.

Finally, managing the logistical details of your wedding day can be a full-time job (and you already have one!). It is impossible for you to be directing vendors, guests and family while you are supposed to be getting ready to be a Mr. or Mrs.! Every detail in a wedding needs to be treated with equal importance to create the stunning day you are craving, and a wedding planner oversees these details for you.

With such an important event in your life, can you really afford to be overwhelmed by all of the legwork and management of details to guarantee your wedding is just as you imagine? You don’t want to miss out on your own wedding day because you are constantly worrying. Contact Sweet Stylings to see what a wedding planner can do for you!

Why hire a wedding designer?

We often meet couples who have trouble streamlining all of their wedding ideas. With the popularity of wedding blogs and wedding shows, you may be overloaded with wedding ideas and are finding it hard to focus on a clear direction.

As wedding designers, we help you concentrate on the ideas that are most important to you and, together, we will find the right design for you as a couple…we may even come up with some ideas you have not even thought of!

Many couples worry that hiring a wedding planner and/or designer means that someone is taking over their wedding. This is not the case, as we are here to use our experience and specific skills to create what you are envisioning in addition to guiding you with suggestions. You are welcome to be as involved as you would like!

Please contact us for full wedding planning and design as our boutique-style business allows us to take on a limited number of weddings a year.

How do I know which planner/designer is right for me?

Well, just like picking the right person to marry, choosing the right wedding planner and designer for you is a gut feeling.

First, what are your wedding priorities? Do you want to knock everyone’s socks off with opulent decor and the best live band money can buy? Or do you just want a relaxed gathering with great food and are less concerned with what everything looks like? You should be able to identify these values by browsing a wedding planner’s website, Facebook Page and other forms of media.

Next, contact a selection of wedding planners for an initial meeting. These meetings are important because you have to make sure you “click” with your planner; not just wedding vision-wise, but with the planner herself/himself.

What do you have in common? Do you both share a love of handbags and Jennifer Aniston movies? Are you both sports fanatics? Remember, you are going to be constantly communicating with this person, so you want to make sure this is someone that you’re not only comfortable with, but, ideally, want to be friends with after your wedding — Sweet Stylings offers a complimentary initial meeting for this reason!

Finally, look into your planner’s business reputation. Ask if they are active in the wedding industry. Do they belong to any associations? Make sure he/she is credible and you are comfortable with their business practices (ie: communication, relationship with vendors and past clients, etc.) and ask for references. Always sign a detailed contract to protect both parties. Good luck!

Can I pick and choose what parts of your services I want and do not want?

We have planned out our services so that we can provide the best and most in-depth level of service for our clients. With that said, we always offer a complimentary initial consultation to investigate all of your needs and to guide you in choosing the best service for you. Flexibility is an option but will need to be discussed further during the initial meeting.

Are you available for weddings and events outside of Calgary?

Yes! Please do not hesitate to discuss your details by going to the Sweet Stylings Contact page.

Why should I want a custom Sugar Bar?

A better question would be why wouldn’t you want a custom Sugar Bar? A custom Sugar Bar is a fun and interactive experience for your guests with a sweet reward for them. While the traditional cake cutting is lovely and symbolic, most guests do not (surprisingly) end up eating the cake. Instead of limiting your guests to one type of dessert, why not give your guests options and let them share in some of your favourite sweets?

Check out Calgary dessert tables: What is a dessert table anyway for more information.

What does a custom Sugar Bar include?

A custom Sugar Bar includes whatever your heart desires. As you may have noticed, candy buffets have been very popular at events, and a Sugar Bar is adding another level to the candy buffet to include other coordinating, custom sweets.

Sugar Bar sweets are designed in a way that reflects your event design, or they can be completely different and be stand-out features on their own. Your custom sweets are displayed in a creative manner that coordinates (or not) with your overall event design and allows your guests to easily grab their favourite sweets.

All Sugar Bars include:

  • initial consultation
  • custom design board
  • custom tablescape design
  • custom sweets
  • vessels and serving ware
  • basic stationery for labels
  • set-up and tear-down
  • exceptional personal service

To make your Sugar Bar extra special, we also offer more decor options:

  • custom menus or signage
  • favour bags/boxes
  • custom trays, stands and other vessels
  • custom backdrops or props
  • floral arrangements

We are excited to design something exceptional for you! Contact us for your unique Sugar Bar dessert table.

Why should I hire Sweet Stylings to design a Sugar Bar for me instead of making my own dessert table?

A custom Sugar Bar is a luxury service for discerning people. Sweet Stylings will work with you to design a concept that is fitting for your specific event: we come up with an overall design scheme and layout, while providing you with the particular supplies needed for your display.

We prepare for your event by setting up your Sugar Bar design (and we can add signage to prevent guests from early sampling!) and return to tear-down your Sugar Bar once everyone has had their fill.

In other words, it is a full service experience with our expertise where you can decide how much you would like to be involved. Contact us for your custom, full-service Sugar Bar!

Do you make any of the food for the Sugar Bars?

No. We, at Sweet Stylings, are not licensed bakers or pastry/dessert chefs. Although we love baking as a hobby, we work with amazing vendors that can take our ideas and designs and bring them to life for our Sugar Bars.

Do you offer rentals of your cake stands and plating?

No. Our inventory is exclusively for our Sugar Bar clients in order to manage our supplies and prevent breakage and loss.
